About
L015 is the number on the tank; Peckoltia vittata is the fish. PlanetCatfish's Cat-eLog writes the number zero-padded as L015 and lists 'Candy Striped Pleco' as the common name, and the same data sheet corrects the two things a shop label usually gets wrong. The first is size: the Cat-eLog gives 140 mm SL and FishBase 15 cm TL, while the trade sells it as a 10-12 cm pleco. It is a medium fish, not a nano one. The second is diet. The Cat-eLog's summary is 'Omnivorous with a tendency towards meaty foods. Not an effective algae eater' - the opposite of what a suckermouth suggests, and of FishBase's terse 'feeds on algae'. Buy it to clean the glass and you will keep a hungry omnivore with a protein bias. It has also been mistaken for the clown pleco, Panaqolus maccus, for decades; the Cat-eLog points out that Baensch Atlas Vol. 1 printed a photograph of P. maccus with Peckoltia vittata next to it.
Care
One cave per fish, any substrate, warm water with real flow and good oxygenation. PlanetCatfish's rule of thumb is a 12-inch square of floor per fish, well broken up with rock piles and wood tangles, so a second fish needs footprint rather than litres. It is easy-going with tankmates - the Cat-eLog calls it safe with small fishes and shrimp yet robust enough to withstand all but the largest cichlids - and territorial with its own kind and with other cave-dwelling plecos. Feed meaty sinking food after lights out; vegetables are a side dish, not the staple. Well-fed fish leave plants alone.
Diet
Omnivore with a strong meaty bias, not an algae eater. Frozen bloodworm, chopped prawn and mussel, sinking protein pellets; blanched vegetables as a side.
