The short version: you can use the whole calculator and species library without an account, without cookies and without being tracked. Everything below explains the details honestly, in plain language.
Who is responsible
AquaSage (aquasage.app) is an independent project run from Lithuania. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights listed below, write to hello@aquasage.app.
Using AquaSage without an account
The stocking calculator, the species library, the tools and every guide work with no account and no sign-up. We set no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies, and we do not use ad networks, social pixels or cross-site trackers of any kind. Two strictly necessary cookies exist: one remembers your chosen language, and one keeps you signed in if you have an account. Both are needed for the site to do what you asked it to do, so no consent banner is required — and nothing about them follows you to other websites.
What stays on your device
Two things are stored locally in your browser and never sent to us: your unsaved plan (so a refresh or a sign-up does not lose your work) and your unit preference (metric or US). Clearing your browser storage deletes both.
If you create an account
We store your name, email address and a hashed password — never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google. For security, sessions record an IP address, browser user agent and timestamps so you can be signed in and so we can spot abuse.
Tanks you save
A saved tank stores its dimensions, setup (filtration, substrate, planting, maintenance) and the species you added. If you turn on sharing, a random link is created; anyone with that link can see that tank until you turn sharing off. We count views of shared pages (link, referring site, time) in aggregate — no personal data, no visitor profiles.
Feedback you send
The "Help us improve" form stores your message, its category, the page you sent it from and your language — plus your email only if you type one, so we can reply. If you are signed in, the message is linked to your account so we can follow up. We use it to fix and build things, nothing else.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless and aggregated: page views and a few product events (a species added, a plan saved, a link copied), with no cross-site tracking and no visitor profiles. We also see aggregate data in Google Search Console about which search queries lead to the site — that data comes from Google and contains no personal information. We deliberately removed Google Analytics so the site needs no cookie banner.
Who processes data for us
Vercel — hosting and cookieless analytics. Supabase — the database, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). Cloudflare R2 — species photos (no personal data). Google — Search Console (aggregate search data) and, only if you choose it, Google sign-in. Each acts as a processor under contract; none of them receives your data to use for their own purposes, and we never sell data to anyone.
Legal bases (GDPR)
Account and saved tanks: performance of a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)). Feedback, security logs and cookieless analytics: our legitimate interest in running, protecting and improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f)). We do not process special categories of personal data and we do not make automated decisions with legal effects about you.
How long we keep things
Account data and tanks are kept until you delete them or ask us to. Sessions expire automatically. Feedback is kept while it is still useful for the roadmap. Aggregate view counts contain no personal data and are kept as statistics.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, take it elsewhere, restrict or object to processing. Write to hello@aquasage.app — we will respond within one month. If you believe we handled your data badly, you may complain to the Lithuanian State Data Protection Inspectorate (VDAI, vdai.lrv.lt) or your local supervisory authority.
Children
AquaSage is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. Anyone can use the calculator and library without an account and without giving us any personal data at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note it on the changelog page. Meaningful changes to how account data is used will also be emailed to account holders.
