Downoi
Pogostemon helferi
Lamiaceae

About
Downoi is a compact Thai rosette plant, its name meaning 'little star', prized in aquascaping for the crinkly, curly green leaves that radiate outward in a low star-shaped cushion. Native to seasonal streams in Thailand, it stays small and dense under strong light and grows into an eye-catching foreground or midground accent among stones and wood. Bright light with added CO2 and steady nutrients keep it tight and vividly green rather than leggy and pale.
Care
Plant in nutrient-rich substrate with bright light, supplemental CO2 and steady fertilisation to hold the compact star rosette. Divide side shoots to spread it.
Diet
Feeds from both roots and the water column; root tabs at planting plus regular liquid dosing prevent leaf loss and keep growth dense.
