Rotala Rotundifolia
Rotala rotundifolia
Lythraceae

About
Rotala rotundifolia is a versatile Southeast Asian stem plant prized for the airy, feathery bushes it forms as a background or midground planting. In low-tech tanks it stays green and grows readily, but under strong light and injected CO2 it becomes dense and flushes warm pink, orange or red at the tops, making it a staple of aquascaping. Its emersed leaves are round, while the submerged growth is narrow and needle-like.
Care
Plant stems in nutrient-rich substrate with moderate to high light; add CO2 and column ferts for dense, colourful red tops. Trim and replant the cuttings regularly to keep it bushy.
Diet
Feeds mainly from the water column but also draws nutrients through its roots; responds strongly to nitrogen, phosphate, iron and micronutrient dosing.
